Specimen

2 mL (1 mL min.) Serum from 1 SST. Ship refrigerated or frozen. At least 6 weeks should elapse after thyroidectomy or needle biopsy or Iodine-131 therapy before specimen collection.

Usage

This assay is useful as a follow up of patients with differentiated thyroid cancers after thyroidectomy & ablation. It also acts as an aid in determining the presence of thyroid metastasis to lymph nodes. In the absence of significant thyroid remnant, elevated or rising Tg levels are suspicious of recurrent or persistent disease.
